Social and Recreation Coordinator
Position Summary

Shannon Falls Retirement Residence is seeking a compassionate and creative Social and Recreation Coordinator to design, deliver, and evaluate engaging social, recreation, and leisure programs that reflect Residents’ interests, abilities, choices, and individualized care plans.
In this rewarding role, you will help promote connection, independence, wellness, safety, and an exceptional Resident experience. Your ideas and leadership will help create a welcoming community where Residents can participate, build relationships, and enjoy meaningful daily experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess Residents’ interests, abilities, and program needs at move-in and throughout their stay.
- Develop, coordinate, deliver, and evaluate person-centred social and recreation programs.
- Create opportunities that encourage Resident choice, autonomy, engagement, and participation.
- Build respectful and positive relationships with Residents, families, volunteers, employees, and community partners.
- Coordinate volunteers, including orientation, scheduling, guidance, and ongoing support.
- Maintain accurate assessments, observations, attendance records, program evaluations, and documentation of Resident responses.
- Coordinate Resident and Family Council meetings and departmental meetings, including agenda preparation and minute taking.
- Organize and support fundraising initiatives and special events.
- Participate in Resident care conferences, leadership meetings, quality-improvement initiatives, and health and safety activities.
- Support accreditation requirements, continuous improvement activities, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Promote safe work practices, emergency preparedness, infection prevention and control, and Resident safety.
- Complete required training and other related duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an approved Therapeutic Recreation program.
- Minimum three years of recent related experience; equivalent qualifications and experience may be considered.
- Serving It Right certification required within three months of hire.
- FoodSafe certification required within one month of hire.
- WHMIS training.
- Strong computer, communication, organization, leadership, and program-planning skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
This role requires regular walking, standing, sitting, bending, and crouching, including the ability to lift up to 20 pounds. Flexible scheduling is required.
